It gets darker earlier these days. And it’s becoming cooler. And I noted the first spot of color in the tops of some trees along the highway today. Fall. It’s depressing. Sure, it’s one of the greatest times of the year to be a sports fan, but as a lover of summer – I don’t like letting go. Plus, one of my best friends officially disappeared for its six month hibernation today when Philadelphia won against Milwaukee – clinching a spot int the NLCS. Which is in Prime Time beginning Thursday. The media layoff of three days is absurd, however – this is baseball. A sport that’s meant to be played every day. But for a 3-day break in the dead of summer.

“Baseball breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The
game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it
blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then
as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the
fall alone.”
– A. Bartlett Giamatti, former MLB Commissioner.

And so we reluctantly break out the sweatshirts.
