Indifference is the the act

of reaching in

and pulling out

your heart

to avoid feeling pain

It’s widely accepted

as good social etiquette

by a society of automatons

who may as well

fork their tongues

Donning blinders

refusing to see

anything other than what you want to see

In the office

At the market

Driving through quiet streets

Push

Push

Self

Self

– nothing else exists

A quick way to a cold heart

that can never be hurt

and never be touched

and never be moved

except

when you want to be moved

like in a sad movie

where all the characters are idiots

because they risk

You know better

You live in the real world

Safely

Alone
