I haven’t done this in a few years, but since we’ve seen most of the movies selected for Oscar this season, I figured I’d do a predictions post. Besides, I love the movies.

Here are the movies selected for best picture:

Black Panther – Liked it about as much as I’ve liked any Marvel movie. I’m not gaga over the genre, but Marvel does such a remarkable job of storytelling and on-screen magic, they’re going to win Oscars one day. I just don’t know if it’s this one. Could be though.

BlackKKKlansman – I freaking loved this movie. My second favorite movie in this list. Spike deserves Best Director, but won’t win.

Bohemian Rhapsody – Rami Malek is great. And of course the movie is a remarkable trip down memory lane. But I got bored about 2/3 of the way through—right about time the directors changed, I think. Oh, the casting in this movie was REMARKABLE.

The Favourite – I hated this movie so much. It was so pretentious and unnecessary. When it ended, a guy sitting a row down from us in the eclectic movie house burst into laughter, and everyone left scratching their heads. Critics seemed to love this movie though, so it might win everything. Fuckers.

Green Book – My favorite movie of the year. Yes, I know that Dr. Shirley’s family isn’t happy, but this story was great even if it was fiction. And both Viggo and Mahershala were flawless.

Roma – We didn’t see it yet, which means it’ll probably win everything.

A Star is Born – After we saw this I thought it was a lock for everything. Then we saw Green Book and the others. It’s worth a rental for sure, just for Gaga. But this story has been done before. Twice.

Vice – I laughed out loud several times during this movie. And I hated Amy Adams so much. Christian Bale is a human chameleon. And Sam Rockwell is an American Treasure. My third favorite movie of the year just edging out Star.

PREDICTIONS

Best Supporting Actress

Will win: (Please not Weisz or Stone.) I’m going to say Marina De Tavira in Roma. It’s like this, Regina King won a Golden Globe for Beale Street and while she was really good, I thought Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney was better and she didn’t win there. So De Tavira. Because I didn’t see it.

My pick: Amy Adams. I haven’t hated a female character this much in a long time. Maybe ever.

Best Supporting Actor

Will win: Sam Rockwell, Vice.

My pick: Mahershala Ali, Green Book. Man, he’s such a talented actor.

Best Actress

Will win: Glen Close, The Wife. Or they’ll give it to the Coleman for The Favourite. Ugh. Kill me if that happens.

My pick: I guess Glen Close. But Gaga was unbelievable in A Star is Born.

Best Actor

Will win: Christian Bale, Vice. He was pretty, pretty, pretty great.

My pick: Viggo Mortensen, Green Book. You won’t believe this is Viggo Mortensen. Vito Mortensen is more like it.

Best Director

Will win: Alfonso Cuarón, Roma. Because even though we only watched the first ten minutes so far, it easily looked like the kind of movie where the director wins an Oscar. Plus he’s winning everywhere else.

My pick: Spike Lee, BlacKKKlansman. This was my favorite Spike Lee movie ever.

Best Picture

Will win: The Favourite. It’s inevitable because of how much I hate it. Just like I hated English Patient and Slumdog Millionaire. If not this repulsive film, then Roma. Or maybe Black Panther shocks the world?

My pick: Green Book. If you haven’t seen this movie, do. I promise that if you have a heart, and appreciate great acting, you’ll see the beauty in it.

Animated Feature Film

Will win: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. NO QUESTION. And this would be a huge deal for Marvel to win. But Incredibles 2 will probably win … because Disney.
