It’s one of those days – when mid-fifties with shifting
breezes means it’s too cool to wear shorts, and a sweatshirt is more comfortable than a
tee. A late October day in North Carolina when it gets dark around 6:30 and the
leaves are nearing peak.
In a week – the trees will be a bowl of Trixx and it
will be getting dark an hour earlier. It’s one of those days when you stand mesmerized
in the dying orange of the day and watch leaves drift and dance on invisible
roller-coaster tracks all around you.
It’s a beautiful day. A lonely day. The kind of day when you miss your
kids. Or your own childhood.
October.
